Jacksonville is home to two schools that facilitate students with special education needs. For more than 150 years, two schools have been providing students with the communication skills and other advantages that they need to
face the extra challenges in their lives.
Illinois School for the Deaf

The mission of the Illinois School for the Deaf is to educate students who are deaf or hard of hearing to be responsible, self-supporting citizens.
Illinois School for the Visually Impaired

The Illinois School for the Visually Impaired is a statewide resource offering students with visual impairments quality services which will enable them to become personally productive and self-sufficient citizens.

Opportunities abound for those with the desire to broaden their horizons after school or after degrees. The Lights On Afterschool Alliance is celebrated nationwide to call attention to the importance of afterschool programs for America's children, families and communities. Our own 4 Counties for Kids afterschool program keeps kids safe, helps working families and inspires learning.

Jacksonville Public Library

U of I Extension Programs
4-H and Youth

The Morgan/Scott Extension Unit serves over 500 youth and 200 adult volunteers in 22 traditional 4-H clubs; 290 developmentally disabled adults; and 22 youth in the 4-H after school program.

This facility of Lincoln Land Community College offers a wide variety of college transfer courses, occupational training, and classes for those who want to learn a new skill or explore a new interest.

May is Volunteer Appreciation Month
On May 12, 2008 @ 6:30 under the Open-Air Pavilion in Nichols Park
The Honest Abe District, is honoring their volunteers who work to strengthen the Scouting program on a day to day basis.
The evening events will start with Leader Awards Presentation, then a Dutch Oven Contest.
Bring your families we will have games for everyone to play.
Every volunteer is invited and should bring an appropriate dessert or finger food dish to share. (Remember your serving utensils)
The District will provide drinks.

Check out what Eisenhower School PTA Cub Scout Pack 108 has been up to.
They reserved the YMCA pool. All made boats out of cardboard then tested their skills in staying afloat within them. Look like a blast to me.
